Jakarta, 28 March 2022. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) kicked off the G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG) Meeting scheduled for four days, from today through 31 March 2022. Delegates from all G20 members and participant groups are attending this first round of ACWG meeting.

The Vice Head of KPK, Lili Pintauli Siregar stated that the very first meeting today marks the start of measures to be taken by G20 member nations to eradicate corruption.

 “On this first day, the meeting will focus on discussing the issue of Enhancing the Role of Auditing in Tackling Corruption”, that we will push into one of the High Level Principles (HLP) of measures to eradicate global corruption,” said Lili.

The Deputy of Information and Data of KPK, Mochamad Hadiyana, as the Chair of the Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG) further explained that auditing is a central element within the accountability and integrity system. Therefore, auditing institutions, accountants, and private auditors play pivotal roles in preventing and eradicating corruption.

Hadiyana also mentioned that discussing this issue will empower both public and private auditing agencies to effectively tackle corruption; strengthen the role and capacity of investigating agencies and internal auditors from the private sector to identify, prevent, and if required, investigate corruption; encourage private auditors to actively identify, prevent, and report corrupt practices; develop a solid framework to follow up and implement corruption-related findings from audit; strengthen cooperation among investigating agencies, internal audit, anti-corruption/law enforcement institutions, and other institutions concerned with eradicating corruption; and also to promote the use of information and communication technology to enhance the role of auditing, including transparency and accountability in managing public finances.

As the Co-chair of G20 ACWG, Rolliansyah Soemirat, the Director of ASEAN Politics and Security Cooperation of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, mentioned that not only delegates of G20 member nations will attend the meetings, but also participating groups of B20, C20, T20, L20 and P20.

Rolliansyah further elaborated that today’s first meeting had four sessions involving panelists from KPK that represents Indonesia that holds this year’s Presidency, along with delegates from the United Arab Emirates, The United States, and Australia. Other panelists are from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Australia Accountability Lab, as well as representatives from participating groups of B20, C20, T20, L20 and P20.

“We encourage delegates of G20 member nations to be actively engaged in this ACWG first four-day round of meetings under this year’s Presidency of Indonesia for it to be effective and results in consensus on measures to eradicate global corruption,” Lili concluded.
