Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Agus Rahardjo and Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Syafruddin, as well as the National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian witnessed the signing of the declaration of commitment to building Integrity Zone toward Corruption Free Region (WBK) in Airports and Seaports, and legal enforcement in integrated criminal justice system, in Jakarta, Wednesday (12/6).

The commitment was signed by 14 regional police chiefs during the National Police Development Planning Forum (Musrenbang) 2019. The declaration was aimed to push every airport and seaport in Indonesia to come up with improvement steps that will be monitored regularly by KPK.

The 14 police chiefs came from Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Central Java, North Sumatra, South Sulawesi, East Kalimantan, Bali, North Sulawesi, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Riau, West Sumatra and Riau Islands.

Gen. Tito said every police officer must erase corruption culture in every working unit to create clean, transparen and accountable service.

“Hopefully, our activity today is not a mere ceremony, but it has to be materialized. It is important for the growth of the National Police itself,” he said.

The Integrity Zone development is based on Presidential Regulation No. 54/2018 on the National Strategy of Corruption Prevention and Joint Decree of the National Corruption Prevention Team on Corruption Prevention Action. Among the focuses of the National Strategy are law enforcement and bureaucratic reform.

One of the activities in terms of law enforcement and reform is the development of the Integrity Zone in strategic areas, namely airport and seaport.

Meanwhile, KPK Chairman Agus Rahardjo welcomed the effort to prevent corruption inside legal enforcement institutions. “As law enforcers, we have to be the example and role model. This war against corruption will be lighter if we are in it together,” he said.
