Jakarta, 3 July 2020. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested six suspects in East Kutai Regency related to the Case of Alleged Bribery in Infrastructure Work at the East Kutai Regency in 2019-2020.

On 2 July 2020, KPK arrested 16 people in Jakarta, Samarinda, and East Kutai, seven of whom have been declared as suspects: ISM (East Kutai Regent 2016-2021), EU (Head of DPRD of East Kutai Regency 2019-2024),  MUS (Head of BAPENDA of East Kutai Regency), SUR (Head of BPKAD of East Kutai Regency), ASW (Head of the Office of Public Works of East Kutai Regency), AM (Private sector), and DA (Private sector).

In addition to arresting the 16 people, KPK also secured Rp170 million in cash, eight passbooks under the name of MUS with a total balance of Rp4.8 billion, and deposit certificates worth Rp1.2 billion.

Five of the suspects, ISM, EU, MUS, SUR, and ASW, allegedly arranged the procurement and project resources allocations in East Kutai Regency for their benefits.

For their actions, ISM, EU, MUS, SUR, and ASW are suspected of violating Article 12 paragraph (1) letter a or b or Article 11 of Law No. 31 of 1999 as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) no. 1 of the Indonesian Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 65 paragraph (1) of the Indonesian Criminal Code.

The other two suspects, AM and DA, who are alleged of bribery, are suspected of violating

Article 5 paragraph (1) letter a or b or Article 13 of Law No.31 of 1999 as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1 of the Indonesian Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 64 paragraph (1) of the Indonesian Criminal Code.

For investigation purpose, KPK is detaining the suspects for 20 days, from 3 to 22 July 2020.

ISW, MUS, SU, and ISW are detained at the KPK’s C1 Detention Center, while EU, AM, and DA are detained respectively at the KPK’s Detention Center in the Red and White Building, Polda Metro Jaya Detention Center, and Central Jakarta Police Detention Center.

All the suspects have gone through medical check-ups, and they will be isolated for the first 14 days, in accordance with the applicable health protocol during the Covid-19 pandemic.
