Jakarta, 14 July 2020. The Corruption Eradication Commission and the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration (PDTT) have agreed to exchange information and data related to their respective duties and authorities.

This agreement was written in a memorandum of understanding signed by the chairmen of the two institutions in the office of the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration on Tuesday, 14 July 2020.

KPK Commissioner Firli Bahuri stated that the role of villages is crucial in the development of corruption-free Indonesia. “This is because villages are the closest government units to the society,” he said.

Not only the exchange of information and data, the memorandum of understanding also stipulates the cooperation between the two institutions in preventing corruption as well as organizing education and training, conducting studies and research, providing experts and speakers, and others.

The Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration, Abdul Halim, stated that one of the purposes of the memorandum of understanding is to improve the monitoring of village funds. Abdul said that all village chiefs must utilize village funds in accordance with the regulations by applying a cashless system to the furthest extent.

The reason for the recommendation to use cashless transactions, he said, is to make sure that all the transactions using village funds are well-recorded and accountable from the beginning to the end.

“This needs to be done so that it is accountable and known by all concerned parties including the auditors,” said Abdul.

He also said that the application of cashless transactions in using village funds is a part of establishing digital villages and improving accountability of village funds use. This way, village chiefs do not need to worry about problems arising from the misuse of village funds as all processes will be recorded.

During the current Covid-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration must support President Joko Widodo’s decision to distribute the Direct Cash Assistance (BLT), which is also a part of the village funds use.

It is hoped that the memorandum of understanding between KPK and the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration (Kemendes PDTT) can be one of the many joint-efforts to monitor the use of village funds for the needs of the people. Hopefully, the use of state funds can be optimized to improve the welfare of the people and to reduce their burden during the pandemic.
