Jakarta, 22 July 2020. KPK has detained eleven former North Sumatra Regional Representative Council members for the period of 2009-2014 and/or 2014 -2019 who have been declared as suspects in several corruption cases of giving and receiving gratuities related to their functions and authorities as members of North Sumatra Regional Representative Council (DPRD) for the aforementioned periods.

The eleven suspects who have been detained are SH, R, SHI, ID, MA, IB, RN, LS, JS, JH, and RPH. They are detained for 20 days from 22 July 2020 to 10 August 2020 in KPK’s First Class Detention Center on East Jakarta.

SH, R, SHI, ID, MA, and IM are detained in KPK Detention Center in the Red and White Building, while RN, LS, JS, JH, and RPH are detained in KPK Detention Center at Pomdam Jaya Guntur.

Previously, KPK had declared 14 members of North Sumatra DPRD for the period of 2009-2014 and/or 2014 -2019 as suspects on 30 January 2020.

They allegedly received gifts or promises from the Governor of North Sumatra, Gatot Pujo Nugroho related to several interests, namely the approval of Accountability Report of North Sumatra Province for the budget years of 2012-2014 by the North Sumatra DPRD; The amendment of the North Sumatra Regional Budget for the budget years of 2013-2014 by the North Sumatra DPRD; The approval of North Sumatra Regional Budget for the budget years of 2014-2015 by the North Sumatra DPRD; and The refusal to use the interpellation rights by North Sumatra DPRD in 2015.

For these actions, the 14 former members of North Sumatra Regional Representative Council for the period of 2009-2014 and/or 2014 -2019 have been suspected to violate Article 12 letter a or b, or Article 11 letter a or b of the Law No.31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law No.20 of 2001 in conjunction with Article 64 paragraph (1) and article 55 paragraph (1) no.1 of the Indonesian Criminal Code.
