Jakarta, 15 November 2019. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named two new suspects for a bribery case related to licensing and property in Cirebon Regency. The suspects are HEJ, General Manager of Hyundai Engineering Construction, and STN, Director of PT King Properti, both allegedly bribe SUN, Cirebon Regent for the period of 2014-2019, to obtain licenses.
The suspects were charged with Article 5 (1)a or b or Article 13 Law No. 31/1999 as amended by Law No. 20/2001 on Corruption Crime Eradication.
The case started with a sting operation on 24 October 2018, where KPK confiscated Rp116 million cash and bank receipt of Rp6.4 billion transfer. KPK then named Cirebon Regent Sunjaya and Head of Cirebon Public Works and Public Housing Office, Gatot Rachmanto. Both of them have found guilty by Bandung Corruption Court. KPK had previously named SUN as suspect in a money laundering case involving Rp51 billion money.
Following the investigation and the court hearings, KPK found the evidence that Cirebon Regent has been bribed related to license issuance for PT Cirebon Energi Prasarana PLTU 2 in Cirebon Regency and for PT KING PROPERTI.
HEJ allegedly gave Rp6.04 billion tout of the initial promise of Rp10 billion to SUN in obtaining license for PT. Cirebon Energi Prasarana PLTU 2. The money was given after creating a fictitious work order (SPK) for PT. MIM (MIlades Indah Mandiri), for fake consultation work on steam power plant project with the contract value of Rp10 billion.
Meanwhile, STN allegedly bribed SUN with Rp4 billion to get a license for PT. King Properti. The money was allegedly given in cash through SUN’s assistant in December 2018.
KPK reminded heads of local governments to stay away from corruption and to reject any gratuity. KPK also reminded private sector, both national companies or national branch of international companies, to implement clean governance that is free from corruption.
