Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Agus Rahardjo was among the attendees when the General Elections Commission (KPU) announced the wealth of presidential and vice presidential candidates in Jakarta on Friday (12/4).

KPU Chairman Arief Budiman said the announcement is a prerequisite of the candidacy. He said even after the wealth report has been submitted to KPK, it must be updated from time to time to maintain the integrity of the candidates.

Arief emphasized that wealth report compliance is a way to prevent corruption among public officials. With the principle of transparency, the leaders are expected to deliver good governance, he said.

He then announced that presidential candidate Joko Widodo owns Rp50.2 billion of total asset, while his running mate Ma’ruf Amin reported Rp12.3 billion of wealth. Their rival, Prabowo Subianto has Rp1.9 trillion of wealth while Sandiaga Uno Rp5 trillion. KPU has verified all documents of the wealth reports, Arief said, and ran them through KPK.

Also attending the event were KPU Commissioners Evi Novida Ginting Manik and Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi; Fritz Edward Siregar from the Elections Supervisory Body (Bawaslu); and representatives of both candidates’ camps.
