The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) held “Musical Discussion Against Corruption” at the Anticorruption Learning Center at KPK C1 building in Jakarta, Friday (15/2).

Featuring musician Iksan Skuter and Simponi band as guest stars, the first ever discussion talked about corruption from the perspective of musicians and asked young people to actively discuss the issue. Iksan expressed his anger toward corruption, saying that corruption is infuriating but relentless. He had written songs about corruption in his albums.

“I have many songs about corruption. Out of 10 albums, each one has at least a song about corruption,” Iksan said.

His music serves as social commentary, not just about corruption but about the situations in this country. Music, he said, is a powerful and beneficial medium. Iksan said he believed that corruption could be fought even with music.

As with Iksan, Simponi band has songs about corruption. One of them is called Bung Hatta 2, which the band played at the discussion and is a reference to the country’s first vice president. Bung Hatta was an honest leader, Simponi said, that he even refused to go on haj pilgrimage with state facility. The band said corruption has been entrenched in every inch of our lives but many people remain unaware that corruption inflict losses to the society.

KPK held the musical discussion to reach out to young music lovers to talk about corruption. Young people should not just love music, but create changes through music or other ways. The musical discussion will be held every third Friday, with the aim to unite people, create changes and fight for corruption in the country.
