The Corruption Eradication Commission together with the Ministry of Research and Technology /the National Research and Innovation Agency have redrafted an action plan related to corruption prevention activities in the education sector.

The preparation of this action plan is related to the results of KPK's study regarding the management of Indonesian research funds, which was conducted in 2018. KPK Deputy Commissioner Nurul Ghufron said that the KPK had compiled 18 action plans, and as of 12 June 2020, one action plan regarding regulations had been completed.

"Currently, the action plan is being redrafted to adapt to present developments," said Ghufron in Jakarta (16/6).

According to Ghufron, KPK views this study as important because of several conditions occurring in the field, which among others, are: R & D institutions are spread out without any coordination, not to mention the budgets which are scattered but are not counted in a real manner, and there is no standards for the output of research and development activities.

He added that the problems occurring related to research funding are dominated by problems of management and ambiguity of regulations which will have an impact on the low values of the research results, waste of budget, and state losses. Another problem also occurs due to the unclear arrangement of the research institutions which results in overlapping and uncoordinated research.

The Minister of Research and Technology (Menristek)/Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Bambang PS Brodjonegoro agrees with the conclusion of the KPK study.

"We agree with the results of the study and recommendations presented by the KPK. Today, we are reporting the progress of the action plan which at that time was submitted by the KPK to the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education before the change to the Ministry of Research and Technology and the National Research and Innovation Agency," he said.

He added that “Currently, the government has the 2017-2045 National Research Master Plan (RIRN) which is then converted into five-year priorities, focusing on 49 outputs or 49 products of research, development, studies, and implementation," said Bambang.
