Jakarta, 23 March 2019. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named four suspects in an alleged bribery case related to goods and service procurement at PT Krakatau Steel in 2019. The suspects were named following KPK’s sting operation on Friday, 22 March 2019.

The alleged bribery is regrettable particularly since PT KS is the only state-owned company focusing on steel. Established in 1970, the company should have been able to become a remarkable national steel industry.

Following the 24-hour examination, KPK found sufficient initial evidence to name the four suspects: WNU (Director of Technology and Production of PT Krakatau Steel (Persero)) and AMU (private sector), KSU (private sector), and KET (private sector). WNU and AMU allegedly received the bribe from KSU and KET to have their companies won procurement projects from PT Krakatau Steel (Persero). The procurement projects worth Rp24 billion and RP2.4 billion.

WNU and AMU were charged with Article 12a or b or Article 11 of Law No. 31/1999 as amended by Law No. 20/2001 on Corruption Crime Eradication juncto Article 55 (1)1 of the Criminal Code.  KSU and KET were accused of violating Article 5 (1)a or b or Article 13 of Law No. 31/1999 as amended by Law No. 20/2001 on Corruption Eradication Crime juncto Article 55 (1)1 of the Criminal Code.

For further investigation, KPK detained the three suspects for the next 20 days. WNU and AMU are detained at KPK Red and White Building Detention Center while KSU at KPK Detention Center at Guntur Military Police Compound.
