Jakarta, 17 August 2020. Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) encourages all Indonesian citizens to strengthen their commitment to corruption eradication for a greater Indonesia.

Firli Bahuri, KPK Commissioner, quoted the first president of Indonesia Ir. Soekarno, who said that the nation’s struggle in the past was actually much easier because they fought foreign colonizers. However, it is more difficult now because they have to fight against their fellow citizens.

“Right now, we have to fight against corruptors, against ignorance, against poverty, against social disparity, against disintegration, against persecution, and against corruption,” said Firli resolutely.

To that end, he added, all Indonesians must be fully committed to fighting corruption. Corruption does not only ruin the state’s finance, but it is also a gross violation of people’s rights and great crime against human rights in general. “With the spirit of Indonesian Independence, let’s renew our commitment to fighting corruption for a greater Indonesia,” said Firli.

This year, all KPK leaders and officials held the ceremony of the 75th Anniversary of the Indonesian Independence in a virtual way. KPK Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners, and the Secretary General came in person to take part in the ceremony in the Red and White Building (KPK Headquarters). However, other officials and employees participated virtually in their own homes. To enliven the Independence Day, KPK organized a series of online activities and competitions which can be attended by all KPK officials and employees.
