About 22 officers from the Indonesian Army Law Directorate’s (Ditkumad) Military Law Academy visited the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Friday (12/4) to learn a thing or two about the fight against corruption.

They were welcomed by Rommy Iman Sulaiman from Public Education and Service Division, who talked about KPK’s efforts to prevent corruption and other related knowledge. Rommy said anticorruption stance must be taught since early on and must be repeated to be glued in the memory.

“The purpose is, once people become public officials, the entrenched values will be able to prevent corruptive behavior,” he said.

Rommy explained the various forms of corruption prevention efforts to show the commitment of public officials against corruption.

“There are gratuity reports, compliance in submitting wealth report, and family-based corruption prevention implementation,” he said.

Protecting ourselves from external elements is important, he said, but more importantly is “our self-commitment as the main element to not be corruptive.”

Meanwhile, the Military Law Academy’s Head of Program, Capt. Sutrisno said the visit to KPK provided a tool to build integrity and prevent corruption.

“Military law and civilian law are two different realms, of course, but corruptive behavior is universal and we must prevent that,” he said.

As part of the field study to state institutions, the visit to KPK was participated by 22 students and eight mentors and accompanying staff.
