The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) handed the assets confiscated from three corruption convicts to be managed by the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) on Wednesday (20/2) at the Anticorruption Learning Center (ACLC), South Jakarta.

The assets worth a total of Rp110 billion. The first one is a 9,944-m2 land on Jalan Duren Tiga VIII in Pancoran, South Jakarta, seized from M. Nazaruddin, with the value of Rp94,259,142,000. It was handed to BNN.

The second asset is a 1,194-m2 land and a 476-m2 building on Jalan Kenanga Raya, Tanjung Sari in Medan, North Sumatra, previously owned by the late Sutan Bhatoegana, which is valued at Rp5,196,837,000. It was handed to North Sumatra High Prosecutors Office.

The last one is a 829-m2 land and a 593-m2 building at Kubu Pratama Indah Housing Complex on Jalan Imam Bonjol, Denpasar Barat Subdistrict in Bali, which was seized from Fuad Amin. Worth Rp10,782,506,000, the property was given to Bali High Prosecutors Office.

The seized assets were handed over through State Belongings Usage Status Stipulation (PSP) mechanism, an agreement between the Ministry of Finance as the state treasurer that owns confiscated assets, KPK and AGO, as well as BNN as the applicant for the usage of confiscated state assets.

KPK Chairman Agus Rahardjo said the handover was not the first time, as KPK handed seized property from Djoko Susilo’s case in 2017 to Surakarta City Government, which will use it as a museum. Agus asserted that corruption eradication efforts are not only aimed to punish the criminals but to return state assets.

“We have returned some assets, but the losses are enormous. We know the magnitude of corruption. When we salvage the assets, it’s only a part of the total losses,” Agus said in his welcome speech.

Within 2015-2019, KPK has salvaged more than Rp1.6 trillion worth of assets and over 26 confiscated goods that have been handed over to needed institutions through PSP mechanism.

Attorney General Agung Prasetyo said the seized property will be used as official residence of local prosecutor. In Bali, for example, the property will be used by Head of Denpasar Prosecutors Office while in Medan for official residence or dorm for local prosecutors of corruption cases.

“I think it serves the purpose well, it helps provide the needed facilities and infrastructure. But of course we hope the additional asset will improve the performance of local prosecutors,” he said.
