A number of state-seized luxurious assets were auctioned off at the Jakarta Office of State Assets and Auction Services (KPKNL) late last month. The luxury goods came from cases of Sri Wahyumi Maria Manalip, the Former Regent of the Talaud Islands.

At the event, a Chanel brand handbag, a Rolex Geneva luxury watch, and a diamond-eyed Gold Ring were auctioned off and successfully sold over the limit price. The Chanel bag was sold for Rp.52,883,000, - more than the limit price of Rp.50,883,000, and the Rolex Geneva watch was sold at Rp. 100,765,000.

KPK execution prosecutor Josep Wisnu Sigit said that the Chanel bag was the most popular item in the auction. "Chanel fans were the most interested ones proven by the fact that there were 4 people bidding," he said.

This auction of state-seized assets is based on the Corruption Court Decree of Central Jakarta District Court Number: 92 / Pid.Sus-TPK / 2019 / JKT.PST dated 9 December 2019 under the name of Sri Wahyumi Maria Manalip and the Corruption Court Decree of Semarang District Court Number: 56 / Pid.Sus-TPK / 2019 / PN. Tipikor.Smg dated 9 October 2019 under the name of Sudirno.

As previously reported, in April 2019, the Corruption Eradication Commission confiscated a number of luxury goods after catching some people red-handed in 3 cities, namely Jakarta, Manado and Talaud Islands. The items consist of a Chanel bag, a Balenciaga bag, a Rolex watch as well as some jewellery with estimated prices ranging from tens to hundreds of millions of rupiah.

Former Talaud Islands Regent Sri Wahyumi Maria Manalip was then named a suspect along with two other people. Five months later, precisely in October 2019, this case was given a legally binding force (inkraht). The former Talaud Regent has been sentenced to 4,5 years in prison, plus a fine of Rp. 200 million in the form of 3-month confinement, after being found guilty of accepting such luxury goods as a commitment fee from a contractor who was granted a project in Talaud Islands Regency. Two other people had previously been convicted in this case.
