Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) welcomed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Malaysian Administrative Modernization and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) in a working visit to learn about the management of the State Organizer Asset Report (LHKPN) in Indonesia as an effort to prevent corruption. Previously, on 17-20 February, the Asset Registration and Verification Authority (ARVA) of Afghanistan also learned about the same thing from KPK.

In his remarks, the Acting Deputy for Information and Data of KPK Heri Muryanto stated that online reporting of assets carried out by KPK was the achievement of two work units at KPK, namely the Directorate of Registration and Examination of LHKPN and the Directorate of Information and Data Center. This system is established by integrating various data from various parties to facilitate the state officials in submitting their wealth reports.

"We hope that this experience-sharing activity will encourage the development of wealth reporting system for both parties to achieve a transparent, accountable, and corruption-free government, both in Malaysia and in Indonesia," said Heri at the KPK's Red and White Building, Jakarta.

Furthermore, Heri added, this effort is the realization of KPK's commitment to carry out the mandate of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) or the ratified UN anti-corruption convention.

"Let's together maintain the good cooperation between KPK and MACC and expand the network between KPK and MAMPU," he said.

While in the opening speech, the head of the delegation who is also the Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention) of MACC Dato 'Shamshun Baharin bin Mohd Jamil said that Malaysia currently does not have a law specifically regulating the reporting of officials’ assets, so it has not been effective.

According to him, a directive from the cabinet is currently in effect requiring all members of the royal parliament, the prime minister, all cabinet ministers, and political elements to report their assets.

"Our goal here is to share experiences regarding the reporting of assets, because KPK has first run it," he explained.

Besides Shamshun, three delegation members from MACC and MAMPU were present namely, the Assistant Commissioner of Record Management and Information Technology Division of MACC Puan Farah Najwa Binti Abdul Aziz, the Director of MAMPU Tuan Hussin bin Abu Bakar, and MAMPU Senior Assistant Director Puan Azlina bint Abd Hamid.

At the moment, Malaysia is drafting a new law on Reporting Assets for public officials. This working visit is intended to learn about the management of the LHKPN reporting system in Indonesia, especially online-based reporting system to be considered for the preparation of the draft law.

MACC is one of KPK's strategic partners and has a very close working relationship marked by the ASEAN-PAC Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2004 and a bilateral MoU signed in 2013.

KPK has become a reference for countries in the region because it is considered as one of the anti-corruption institutions with best practices in the registration and management of LHKPN. This visit took place on 25-26 February 2020 at KPK's Red and White Building.
