To encourage the development of a clean business climate with integrity in the Riau Islands, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) held a coordination meeting with the Regional Advocacy Committee (KAD) and business people in the Riau Islands region.

The coordination meeting was attended by KPK Region II Coordinator Abdul Haris, Chairman of the Batam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Jadi Rajagukguk, and KAD Deputy Secretary Ernawati as well as KAD officials of the Riau Islands Province.

According to Haris, the meeting aims to establish commitment and cooperation between the regional government and business people in the Riau Islands region according to KPK’s function to carry out the task of coordination and supervision of corruption prevention in the Riau Islands Province.

"Through this forum KPK facilitates the establishment of synergy between the local government and the private sector to build a business world with integrity in Batam. The private sector plays a significant role in the efforts to prevent corruption, so there is should be more room for bribery in business, “explained Haris at the Batam BP Office, Tuesday (25/12).

The Regional Advocacy Committee (KAD) is a communication forum between the government and business people in the form of public-private dialogue to discuss strategic issues related to efforts to prevent corruption at the regional level (KAD) and at the central level (National Advocacy Committee - KAN).

KAD was established at the initiative of KPK. The structure of KAD consists of elements of local government, business associations, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, academics, and civil society (NGOs). KAD of Riau Islands was established in 2018. In 2019, a Decree of the Governor of the Riau Islands was issued confirming the establishment of KAD. After organizing the membership structure, the management compiled an action plan on the list of problems faced by business people in relation to the local government as the regulator.

As the supervisor, KPK monitors the recommendations and action plans compiled by KAD. KPK can also facilitate KAD to make recommendations and prepare action plans.

Corruption prevention efforts are carried out by KPK as part of the Profit (Professional with Integrity) program. The Profit program is a corruption prevention program that aims to encourage integrity development in the business sector to prevent bribery and corruption practices and improve business governance through multi sectoral collaboration.

KPK has also developed a corruption prevention guide in the private sector (CEK). The CEK Guidelines are propagated and disseminated to Kadin, business associations, and companies.
