The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) assisted Jakarta Tax and Levy Agency (BPRD) and North Jakarta Vehicle Document Registration Center (Samsat) on Thursday (Dec. 5) in a bid to optimize Jakarta Government’s revenue.

KPK Spokesperson Febri Diansyah said they aimed to collect tax by putting stickers on objects with unpaid taxes: motorized vehicle, house and restaurant. Eleven luxurious cars in the parking lots of Regatta Apartment, Mutiara Bay, Pluit and Penjaringan (all in North Jakarta) had stickers put on them to remind their owners to pay the tax. Data on Jakarta motorized vehicles application and BPRD confirmed the unpaid taxes.

The cars include Lamborghini, Bentley, Audi, Mercedes-Bens, Range Rover, and Jeep Rubicon. One of the owners has not paid the vehicle tax for over 12 years.

“Some plate numbers are not in line with the type of the cars as well,” Febri said.

The tax value of 246 luxurious cars in North Jakarta reaches Rp8 billion, but only Rp2.6 billion has been collected from 76 cars. Therefore, KPK and BPRD urged the taxpayers to immediately paid off their tax obligation.

Stickers have also been put on buildings and restaurants in Baywalk Mall, Pluit Penjaringan. A Japanese restaurant, for instance, has unpaid tax of Rp5.4 billion in 2019.

Jakarta Government initially aimed to get Rp44 trillion of original revenue in 2019. As of Oct. 28, 2019, the revenue reached Rp35.6 trillion. For motorized vehicle tax, the realization was Rp7.8 trillion from the target of Rp8.8 trillion. For building tax target of Rp10 trillion, the government managed to get Rp9.2 trillion. Meanwhile, restaurant tax collection reached Rp3.1 trillion, lower than the Rp3.5 trillion target.
