Formal education institution is not the only place to instill. Children can be taught about noble values through fun and educational activities. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) did just that when holding a workshop for 100 elementary school children from Bekasi on Sunday (Nov. 17) at the Anticorruption Learning Center in Jakarta.

Collaborating with Our Eyes Community, the workshop was titled “Anticorruption Gene, the Importance of Instilling Integrity in Children as Anticorruption Generation”.

KPK Spokesperson Febri Diansyah said the activity was part of the effort to disseminate information and campaign against corruption to young generation by using books, games, and music.

“Children can understand the values against corruption through such fun ways,” he said.

For a full day, students of Grade 1-6 were asked to do Brave Friend callisthenic movements and play board games. There were also film screening and musical performance by Xstrada with anticorruption themes. The event was wrapped with anticorruption tale and discussion with storyteller Emand Shine about daily acts that work against corruption.

Following the activity, KPK and Our Eyes Community will create a platform for the participants to implement the action plan that have been created. Several activities have been planned, such as group drawing with the theme of Bekasi with Integrity during car free day event, and anticorruption callisthenic movement. These activities were designed to spread the values of integrity to children in playful ways.  Our Eyes Community will act as facilitator.

KPK urged participants in the workshop to explore Rumah Baca Umi and Sanggar Alam Kita community libraries in Bekasi, which provide anticorruption books from KPK.

KPK expected the activities to not only instill the values of integrity in children, but work as an approach to get young generation to educate their own communities.
